Surgery for Me for Osteoarthritis

I saw my podiatrist consultant today for the results of my recent foot xray. He said that I have osteoarthritis of the big toe with very little cartilage left and some bony growths. Had I been to see him sooner he could have patched it up a bit but as it is so bad now he will have to do an operation. The operation aims to reduce the pain of arthritis by removing a piece of joint which will make your toe slightly smaller but pain free. Osteoarthritis is a condition that affects the joints and is one of the most common types of arthritis. Three key characteristics of osteoarthritis are: mild inflammation of the tissues in and around the joints damage to cartilage, the strong, smooth surface that lines the bones and allows joints to move easily and without friction bony growths that develop around the edge of the joints Osteoarthritis is usually found in the knees, hips and small joints of the hands and base of the big toe, but almost any joint can be affected by it. It is usually develops in people over 50 years of age and is more common in women than in men. feet
