Sleep and Fibromyalgia

Blog pics 050 Sleep is such a crucial part of Fibromyalgia and something most people take for granted. Sufferers like myself experience a number of problems from difficulty falling asleep as well as frequent awakening in which your become awake enough to remember next day. We wake up feeling exhausted with no energy after a nights sleep. Most like myself, go back to sleep during the day to ease the fatigue but even that sleep is interrupted constantly. They say that almost 100% of Fibromyalgia sufferers have problems with their sleep, so you can't get many more sufferers than that. Some researchers suggest that this lack of restorative sleep can lead to aching muscles, so it's a no win situation, as sleeping can actually improve symptoms but most of us cannot sleep (if that makes sense). It has been said that low levels of neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine are both associated with sleep and the ability to tolerate pain. The trouble is that the combination of pain and sleep disturbance is a double edged sword as the pain makes sleep more difficult and sleep deprivation exacerbates pain. It a no win situation.
