Acne Pill for Damaged Spines

An antibiotic that has been used for acne could be used to help treat spinal cord injury's. Doctors are giving the antibiotic 'minocycline' to over 400 patients who have suffered with spinal damage either through an accident or after surgery. When the spinal cord is damaged the body releases a wave of molecules that then causes more destruction and loss of tissue. Early research could suggest that the antibiotic could prevent these types of molecules from being released. In an animal study it showed a better recovery rate for spinal injury's rather than a placebo.
