A Possible Diabetes Drug to Help Ease Back Pain

In an article in The Daily Mail a drug used for the treatment of diabetes may also be used to treat back pain.

U.S. scientists noticed that people with low back pain who were taking the drug 'metformin' to reduce their blood sugar levels were in less pain than those not on the medication.

Research at the University of Arizona Involving 50 patients found that 'metformin' could reduce back pain by nearly two points on a 10-point scale.

Now researchers at the Mayo Clinic in the U.S. are testing 'metformin's performance against a placebo pill on 40 patients.

I guess the end result will also lie on how much the drug costs, but hopefully this could be good news for millions of back pain sufferers like myself.
