Find a Penpal and Enjoy the Companionship

Penpal letters has been going on for decades. Blog Penpal writes when the first penpal was written. The first pen pal matching service is believed to have been the Student Letter Exchange. They began matching pen pals in 1936, and the organisation aimed to encourage students to develop their knowledge of other countries through making new friends.
The joy of having a pen pal has a long and respected history. People have been writing letters to each other ever since writing implements were first invented. Throughout the ages, people have kept in touch, shared their thoughts and beliefs, and poured their lives out onto paper.
Now, more than ever we have lost the feeling to sit down and write a letter as we can either send a text or an email and it will arrive immediately but there is nothing as nice as a letter coming through your letter box addressed to you with a genuine letter inside it.
I have always wanted to get a penpal as I love writing to people but my writing has become really bad and then after watching a program on some penpals who have met up after writing to each other for over 50 years I realised I can always type it and it will still arrive as personal as a hand written one.
At the ripe old age of 70 I thought I was probably a bit late to try and find a penfriend until I started searching the internet and found tons of sites where you can find a penpal. They say Writing to someone you don’t know in person is a fantastic opportunity to learn about different communities. It gives you a chance to hear from people with a different perspective on life.
If your unable to get out much it is difficult to make new friends but writing to someone could built up a relationship with them and learn about each other’s lives. They say it helps with loneliness, chronic pain and boredom.
In fact Sun Life have a Guide To Finding Pen Pals in later life.
If you prefer a more modern version of the pen pal experience, you can exchange emails with your new friend. It's quick, free and may be easier if you communicate with someone far away but for me personally I would prefer the snail male.
Some of the sites Sun Life suggest are good are:
Global Penfriends - Find Snail mail and internet friends from around the world. Safe, secure and family friendly.
World Wide Snail Male Penpals - is a Facebook group with over 44,000 members. It offers a wide network of potential pen pals for you to get to know before you even give them your address.
Penpal World - As a member, you simply post a call for a pen pal and other members who are interested can comment on your post.
Compatipal - This one is great if you want a pen pal with a shared interest.
Some other groups I found online are :
Penpal Me - Sign up and match with other members based on mutual interests. Chat and create customized postcards online that will be sent physically. Your address is hidden securely behind your username at all times
