Development Disabilities Awareness Month 1st-31st March 2024…

#DDAwareness2024 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month 2024 is an annual event that takes place in March and spreads awareness about developmental disabilities. It aims to highlight the importance of the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all areas of society. During the 1970s and 1980s deindustrialisation movement, Ronald Reagan declared March as the month for National Developmental Disabilities. It has been observed since 1987.
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is also a chance to educate people on the impact of developmental disabilities and the effects they have on the lives of those who live with them. Here at Twinkl, we have heaps of resources and advice available, but you can check out this brilliant blog for more!
The Theme for DD Awareness Month 2024 is “A World of Opportunities.” We are celebrating people and working together to remove obstacles. Our goal is to build a community that’s committed to creating a world where everyone can do well and succeed. Join us in making a world where all kinds of people have the chance to thrive.
Every March, the National Associate of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) works with their partners to raise awareness for people with developmental disabilities. They do this by creating an engaging social media campaign, used to educate the wider community. It aims to highlight the challenges that people with developmental disabilities face on a daily basis. As part of the campaign, the beautiful art created by people living with developmental disabilities is celebrated each year.
Recognising Developmental Disability Awareness Month 2024 in school is a great way of shining a positive light on all forms of developmental disability. It gives students an insight into the lives of those people who live with a disability. This enables children to develop their level of understanding and appreciation of the fact that we're all different. Creating an open dialogue on this topic will also help you to reduce instances of prejudice and bullying, which often arise from a simple lack of understanding.
